F1 drops hammer on Renault for race-fixing charges By Jay Busbee
Say what you will about NASCAR, at least we don't have our drivers and teams fixing races. (Well, except for [names redacted to avoid lawsuits], but everybody knows that.) Matters aren't so rosy over in F1, however, where Renault has been slammed with a two-year suspended ban from the Formula One world championships following admission of race-fixing.
As our across-the-pond mates at Yahoo! UK -- they're just like us, 'cept they talk funny -- inform us, an FIA World Motor Sport Council handed down the penalty after the team announced it wouldn't contest the charges against it. Said charges included the allegation that the team ordered Nelson Piquet Jr. -- that's him there at right -- to put himself into a wall at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix in order to allow Fernando Alonso to win. (For those of you wondering if Kyle Busch would take out somebody to help Denny Hamlin win the Cup, well, here's another alternative.)
"The World Motor Sport Council considers Renault F1's breach relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to be of unparalleled severity," the FIA said in a statement. "Renault F1's breaches not only compromised the integrity of the sport but also endangered the lives of spectators, officials, other competitors and Nelson Piquet Jr himself." Even filtering through the usual stiff-upper-lip tweediness of those Europeans, this is pretty damning stuff.
In addition to the suspended ban, former Renault chief Flavio Briatore was booted from the sport entirely, and head of engineering Pat Symonds was banned for five years from FIA events. Alonso, meanwhile, was cleared of any suspicion of wrongdoing.
I gotta tell you, friends, much as I love NASCAR, they've got much better storylines over there in F1. Crew chiefs and driver spats are nothing compared to throwing whole races. Come on, NASCAR! Step up your game!

I dont know, but there is nothing awe-inspiring about Brawn-GP to me. I actually hate the fact that Button could be winning the championship in that car, sine there is nothing charismatic about the guy either. I would much rather have Rubens winning if Brawn had to be champions...at least the guy has some history and charisma. Its probably the reason why i havent followed F1 much this year, its been total domination by the Brawn cars since the start of the season with the rest of the teams a long way behind the pace. Only now we are seeing some of the other teams catching up, but its too little too late. When Hamilton won, it was a great story (rookie driver with a brilliant driving season), when Kimi won it was drama and action filled...i just cant place Button in that category, nor can i compare Brawn-Gp to Ferrari, Mclaren or Renault. Anyways, i suppose the sport needs change and a fresh perspective

I will give Button his due, he has been the most consistent driver...but as i said there is nothing about the guy that i find interesting. To me its like a Pete Sampras...he was a great tennis player, but he was such a boring player and personality that i always voted for the underdog. Federer & Nadal on the other hand epitomises class and brute strength...i can watch those guys play any day. To each his own...i just want this season to end so that next year can bring hope of some excitement. Strange isnt it that the only reports made about the F1 season thus far was about all the controversy, team fall outs, drivers moving and now the Renault saga....nothing about the "supposed brilliance" of Button

If you watched him closely that time already ( he was scored a place with williams bmw that time ) he was on schumi's ass alot during the races, and was driving good for a 20year old that time. Remember cars didnt have all the advanced traction control and sh!te they have at the time hamilton started. He was then replaced with Ralph Schumie a year after that (they wysed because of experience), and he just got put in k*k cars after that. Now he finally got a lekke car, and more experience and you can now see how he is performing. Nog Button - - - Brawn GP - FTW He reminds me of tauzty now. small man, busy making a big name for himself

Quote: Williams F1, During 1998, the team signed a long term agreement with BMW, with the German manufacturer supplying engines and expertise for a period of 6 years. As part of the deal BMW expected at least one driver to be German and Ralf Schumacher was signed. In 1999, the team had a Williams car with a BMW engine testing at circuits, in preparation for a debut in 2000. Williams sought the services of Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya as a proven racer for the up coming season but he was initially unavailable, so Britain's Jenson Button (aged 20) made his debut instead.
BMW Williams' first season did not see a single victory during the season, they did however, manage to get on the podium three times, Ralf Schumacher responsible for all three. Williams finished third in the constructor’s championship, with 36 points; one more than last year. Ralf Schumacher finished fifth in the driver’s championship, while Button, in his debut season, finished three places behind in eighth.
2001
In 2001 Button moved to Benetton-Renault due to Montoya's arrival at the team. The FW23 won four races, three by Ralf Schumacher at Imola, Montreal, and his home Grand Prix in Germany. His teammate, Montoya, was victorious at Monza, and would have won a few more races if not for the FW23's unreliability and pit crew blunders. The car proved to be quicker than the Ferrari and McLaren counterparts in several races, but Williams' 2001 campaign only yielded third place in the constructor’s championship.

Does this prove he was a worst driver than Ralph Dont see the point really. As far as i have been watching F1, especially after its commercial appeal during the Schumi years, the paddocks have always been looking for the next big British driver. Teams of Frank Williams, Stoddard and Ron Dennis were always looking for the next good englishman to put in their teams....enter Ross Brawn, another english team principal. Button was driving for a long time and yet teams still went with Davidson and later on Hamilton...coz im sure they saw the same thing that i am seeing. He is a very consistent driver, has always been...but he just doesnt have that something special. Anyways the Brits will get their desires fulfilled by having back to back English champs... so to all you Button-koppe enjoy it Cmon Rubens

it has been said in the past that the younger you get into the scene and manage to stay employed , after around 5 years of driving the various tracks , when given a "Real" car you do exceptionally well
its like training a dog . . . .

I would like to know what your opinion would be if Hamilton drove with Button in either a Brawn or Mclaren car...who do u think would come out tops?
