Gatsby prices have really shot through the roof over the past 2 years... go check Ottery farm stall's gatsby prices and you will be gobsmacked.
Im no connoisseur, but i actually enjoyed the last gatsby i had from Fisherman's Basket (close to campbell hardware in Elsies River).

cub-zn wrote: 8 Valves of glory wrote: as a gatsby lover i won't try and justify their high prices, but have you ever compared mariam's to any other gatsby place out there? it's really above the rest. it would probably be the rolls royce of gatsby's whereas any other place would be your average toyota, golf, nissan opel etc. the only place i would ever pay that much for a gatsby is mariams. anywhere else they can go to hell because their food is crap. mariams has perfectly cooked steak, their chips are much better, you get all gold tomato sauce (not some red substance that resembles tomato sauce) and all their other sauces are quality sauces. their rolls and salads are always fresh and their gatsbies are bigger than the rest. but after praising them... i wouldn't mind if they dropped the price below the R100 mark oh and for your situation... i would call back and say their purse and then hello peter them also R100 gets you a far tastier and probably healthier meal at Nandos. Honestly don't see the value in buying a gatsby anymore. i don't think this is a topic we can argue about. yes nando's might be healthier but when i buy take aways i don't specifically look for something healthy, i see it as my treat and go for what i like. you might not see the value in buying a gatsby anymore, but when buying one i'm sure you would want the best. when it comes to gatsby's i would go as far as saying nobody in Cape Town makes a better gatsby than Mariams. @funnelman... is it that little take aways opposite the coffe shop? i think i've had their gatsby before. its good for the price but IMO it doesn't come close to Mariams. i see Aneesa's also pushed their prices up quite a bit and will again say it doesn't compare to Mariams. if i go to Aneesa's it will be for a vienna parcel. PS i love food and have tried many places... Mariams definitely one of the best take aways out there.

I don't think they make the best anything, but they are consistent in their level of quality especially considering the years they have been around, and you can basically choose anything random off the menu and it will most likely be very good
for example I think bibi's makes better salomies and bona better parcels, but I wouldn't say Mariams as a whole makes average take outs.
